I made this site back in 1998 when there were only two and a half million websites in the world. I was fired-up after reading articles in Wired about how sites should be fast-loading and simple. I didn't have a digital camera so I went through all the bits of paper I had collected and found some that went together and some that I just liked. I scanned them, made them as small as seemed reasonable and then wrote the code in a text editor. The navigation buttons are life-sized scans of a load of magnetic labels I 'found' in the old BBC World Service control room when it moved to a new location. I still have some labels left so I sometimes add pages to the site, but I try to change the existing structure as little as possible.
